We can run Archery GB instructor cources for Activity companies, Archery Businesses and youth organisations. We can do this from our own Archery Centre or we can come to you and deliver an Archery Instructor course at your venue.

We can also supply you with all the equipment to run a course or we can deliver the course with your own equipment. (We need 6-12 people to be able to run a course)

Gain a recognised archery qualification

The Archery GB Instructor Award is the industry’s leading training course for archery and is the standard course for outdoor centres and for associations such as the Scouts. The course is designed for learners with little or no prior experience of archery. To attend an Archery GB Instructor Award course, you must be at least 17 years old by the first day of the course. The course is held over two days and includes a practical assessment. When you pass your Instructors Awards course, you gain an Archery GB Instructor qualification and one free year of the Archery GB Instructor Subscription.

The qualification does not provide you with insurance, so you will need to arrange this yourself or with the organisation you work with.

The Archery GB Instructors Award course includes:

• How to shoot arrows
• Preparing and delivering archery sessions
• How to select appropriate equipment
• Setting up a range
• How to ensure safety on the range

The course syllabus is delivered over two days with an assessment on the second day. 

Instructors Award assessment

In order to gain your archery qualification and receive your Instructors Award certificate you need to be assessed as competent having completed the following activities: 

• Completing a multiple choice question paper 
• Delivering a 15-20 minute archery session.

Both activities will determine whether you’re competent or require additional support.

Instructor Plus

Archery GB's Instructor Plus course is designed for instructors who aim to develop archers beyond the introductory level. This course focuses on enhancing participants' skills and knowledge, enabling them to coach archers who have already experienced a taster or have-a-go session. The course covers advanced shooting techniques, including the use of sights, safety management, session planning, and equipment maintenance, with a particular emphasis on shooting at distances up to 20m. The course will also enable instructors to work with new archers over six sessions to enable greater development.

Course objectives

• Developing an archer's shooting form over greater distances (up to 20m) and with the use of a bow sight
• Designing and delivering engaging and varied archery sessions (up to six sessions per archer)
• Developing comprehensive understanding and implementation of safety protocols
• Kit maintenance and basic repair of recurve bows and related equipment
• Providing continuous assessment and constructive feedback to support archers' progression

The course includes both online and face-to-face components to provide a comprehensive learning experience.

Online learning

• Overview, objectives, and expectations
• Principles of biomechanics and equipment overview
• Comprehensive safety measures and emergency procedures
• Introduction to bow and arrow maintenance and basic repairs

Face-to-face learning

• Detailed instruction and practical drills for shooting at greater distances
• Techniques for using sights to improve accuracy
• Best practice for setting up and supervising a range
• Methods for teaching, session planning, and adaptability
• Hands-on practice for maintaining and repairing recurve bows
